Don't Miss Penne Pazze, a new farm to table Italian Restaurant in Nashville's L&L Market

3 minute read

There is something so comforting about pasta. I’m not sure if it’s the carbs or just the warm Italian flavors, but I’m here for the pasta! Penne Pazze just opened in the new L&L Market in Sylvan Park, it’s authentic, farm to table Italian, they serve seasonal new dishes every week, and it needs to be at the top of your Nashville food spot list!

It has a really laid back feel. You walk in, order and pay at the bar, then wait for the goodness, just like your favorite bbq joint. This isn’t the Italian place where you put on your sport coat, your black date night dress, and feel fancy, but the food is amazing! My wife and I decided after having a mediocre, overpriced, small plate meal on a date night in Austin, we were going to dress as nice as we wanted for date night, and go where they have the best food. Penne Pazze, my friends, is it!

The friendly Italian speaking staff were very cheerful and excited to have us. They recommended we order a pasta and a pinsa (I’ll explain what this is in a sec.) to split, and that was a fantastic idea.

The Pinsa

Penne Pazze Pinsa (Pizza)

Don’t know what this is?? I didn’t either haha. It’s a roman style pizza. It’s pretty much an artisan personal sized pizza, but here’s the full scoop!

The dough is between a thin Neapolitan style and a focaccia bread. It’s fermented for 4-5 days to get the texture JUST right. It’s kneaded with their fingers not their palms to give it more texture to hold the toppings. (Yes! All the toppings!) It comes out perfectly with a crisp on the outside and still chewy in the middle. We chose the Pinsa Maiala, with tomato sauce, mozzarella, salami, sausage, and porchetta. A complete game changer was adding the house-made onion jam. OH. MY. It was really satisfying without being too heavy. It was perfect to share while we waited on our pasta.

The Pasta

CAMPANELLE PAZZE at Penne Pazze

Oh, the pasta. The carbs. BRING. IT. ON.

This pasta is made in house, farm to table style, and it is AMAZING! I really can’t say that enough. Anytime Jackie and I go out for Italian, I get pizza, every single time. I just love pizza that much, but this pasta, truly has my heart.

We tried the Campanelle Pazze, and I’m still dreaming about it. It’s bowtie-esque pasta, roasted tomatoes, confit garlic (seriously, whole chunks of fresh garlic in here!), kalamata olives to add some briney, red wine vinegar type flavor, and FRESH basil. I can’t tell you how amazing the flavor is! Very strong flavor without being too rich like so many pasta dishes tend to be. It is a vegan dish if you ask for no cheese, so we went ahead and added some pancetta (Italian bacon). Pro tip - ask for it a little spicy, you’re welcome, and if you still want a little more, the chile oil on the table is AMAZING!

The amount of love and fresh ingredients that go into the food really shines in every dish. We will definitely be back to try the Gnocchi, more pinsas, and definitely the vanilla pana cotta! GO! NOW! EAT PASTA!
